Gurgaon going swanky designer-home culture

The idea is when you have it flaunt it. A roof over your head and the world is yours. The idealism of yesteryears you could see in movies or read in bestsellers is a passé. The basic two-room shanty of those times.....sorry to say this, but that's how the new age apartment generation looks at it.....has long been replaced by designer kitchens, Italian toilets and theme-furnished bedrooms. Gurgaon properties or the real estate in Gurgaon is not sans a culture or is culture-neutral; they are about a new culture. Be it a space for residence or office space, it is a cultural shock for those not exposed to this.

The drawing-cum-living rooms are pieces of art or the museum, where your own culture is represented (read, misrepresented) by the artifacts you have collected from across the chic and upmarket outlets from across the world.

The new-generation householder has no time to see his designer home in the day-time - he leaves for work at the crack of the dawn, or would get up when sunlight is cracking through his French windows; he would for the loo ordering his breakfast which he is used to having while razes his stubbles off his weary face. He jumps into his lace-less shoes, rubs the dust off them against the sheen area of his designer trousers, cough-links of his brand shirt hanging while a shoulder holding his mobile on to a conversation unfinished from the last night.

As the definition of a home has turned around, the looks have gone Westwards. The granite is the highest-selling building material, so are the Italian accessories for toilets. It is an age of indulgence. The idea is when you have it flaunt it. And 'have' means that your banker has it for you, the you who is on a high paypacket slogging for your picture-postcard home. It is a different matter that you do not have time to enjoy your home. It is left to your domestic staff; your wife being a busy globe-trotter herself.

The high-rises in the swanky Gurgaon have the trappings of all aforementioned; the people-less homes or the homes of the helps and the maids.
